Maio Island - Ponta Preta Beach
MAIO Island is located about 23kms from the city of Praia on Santiago Island, the capital of Cape Verde. Despite this short distance, the island has not awakened or has not yet been considered for development, even though it has a lot of natural beauty and could be ideal for tourism.
The Island of Maio has an area of 265 km2, is quiet, scenic and flat, with a population of about 7500 inhabitants, and belongs to the Leeward Islands (Sotavento) group. The highest point is Monte Arduino with an elevation of 436m.
Vila do Maio (formally known as Porto Inglês) is the largest urban center of the island. For serenity and peace, Morro, only 5km away is a great place to stop, or go see the Leatherback turtles at the beach, which are usually the only creatures to be found in the white sandy beaches.
